About this calculator

This calculator estimates the running electricity cost of any load — a motor, compressor, machine or lighting circuit — based on its power rating, daily running hours, monthly working days and your electricity tariff. It shows daily, monthly and annual figures.

Formula

Cost = Power(kW) × Hours/day × Days × Rate(₹/kWh)
  • kWLoad power — kilowatts
  • RateElectricity tariff — currency per kWh

Worked Example

Given: A 10 kW machine runs 10 hours a day, 26 days a month, at ₹8 per kWh.

Result: Daily: 10×10×8 = ₹800. Monthly: ₹800×26 = ₹20,800. Annual: ₹20,800×12 = ₹2,49,600.

How to Use

  1. Enter the load's power in kW (use input power, not just motor HP).
  2. Enter typical running hours per day and working days per month.
  3. Enter your electricity rate per unit (kWh) from your electricity bill.
  4. Click Calculate to see daily, monthly and annual cost.

Important Assumptions

  • Assumes the load runs continuously at the entered power for the stated hours — actual duty cycles vary.
  • Does not include demand charges, fixed charges or tax components that may appear on your electricity bill.

Common Mistakes

  • Using motor HP instead of electrical input kW, which understates real cost.
  • Forgetting that actual running hours are often less than the full shift due to load cycling or idle time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use rated power or actual measured power?

Actual measured power (with a clamp meter or energy meter) gives a far more accurate result than the nameplate rating, since most equipment doesn't run at full rated load continuously.

Does this include the fixed/demand charges on my bill?

No, this only calculates energy (kWh) cost. Fixed charges, demand charges and taxes vary by state and utility and should be added separately.
